Chalk Paint – 20 inspiring ideas, recipes and more

What isn’t there to like about chalk paint! Why? In most cases there is no need to prepare the surface or prime, it adheres to most surfaces and it is SO versatile.

Chalk paint is quite expensive to purchase, but you can easily make your own. These are our 2 tried and tested recipes:

Recipe #1

  • 1 ½ cups of latex/acrylic paint
  • ½ cup plaster of paris
  • ½ cup  hot water

Dissolve plaster of paint into the hot water, and then add your favorite paint color and you are ready to rock!

Recipe #2

  • 2 cups latex/acrylic paint
  • 1 cup powdered Calcium Carbonate (purchase online)
  • Mix to create a smooth consistency. This recipe is really fast drying!

Tips

  • If painting furniture, consider applying a wax and then buffing – particularly if you want an aged/distressed look.
  • Maintaining your unwaxed surfaces is very easy. The best method is flat Coca-Cola with a clean rag. Alternatively Mr. Clean Magic Eraser sponge.
